The Thaemor’esh

A studio-archive: where image, language, and story are shaped into living worlds.

Who Is HB Wallen?

HB Wallen is a writer and illustrator who builds worlds slowly—sometimes over decades—through image, language, and story. She is the creator of The Ebonunder, a dark-mythic universe shaped by folklore, visual art, and the belief that imagination is a form of shelter.

Her work lives somewhere between story and artifact: illustrated novels, oracle cards, languages half-remembered, and places that feel as if they existed long before they were written down. She is less interested in trends than in atmosphere, less concerned with rules than with resonance.

When not drawing or writing, HB spends her time listening—to people, to old myths, and to the quiet places where stories wait to be found.

“Some stories do not end. They remain.”

Whispers Beyond the Esh'Ven Veil

Where mysteries, rumors, and hidden fragments of veilwalker myth can appear.

“The Gr’ray claim Legion once bargained with a dying god. Legion denies this. The river remembers otherwise.”

The Ebonunder

A dark-mythic body of work told through an under legend, field notes, and living fragments of story.

What the Hollow Remembers

Where mysteries, rumors, and things said quietly in the Silent Hollow can appear.

“The elders say the human never truly left. Only that the Hollow learned how to pretend he did”

Cursed Carousel

A Dark Fairy Tale

A forbidden circus arrives in a hidden hollow. Magic awakens, innocence fractures, and nothing escapes unchanged.

This is how a story becomes visible.

These three images show the same character at three moments of becoming.
The graphite drawing is where the question is asked — what would a racing rabbit even be? The hybrid rendering is where uncertainty remains, where the drawing still breathes. The final illustration is no longer searching. It knows its role in the story.
I think of art as exploration, and illustration as commitment.
Art asks. Illustration answers.
On the page, that difference matters.
